Understanding Porsche Option codes
Anyone who has visited the 911 assembly plant at Zuffenhausen , Stuttgart (and if you have not been, then go as soon as you can!) will have noticed that no two cars appear the same. There are, of course, the multiple models (Carrera, Carrera 4, Carrera 4S, targa, cabriolet, turbo, turbo cabriolet, GT3, GT2...) and the dazzling array of colours, but it is the variety of customer choice options that make it almost impossible to spot two the same.
Many manufacturers offer a choice of transmission, or wheels or brake types but only Porsche seem to bewilder purchasers with their option lists (coloured stitching to seats, carbon fibre trims to door shuts, Porsche crest on tiptronic lever being just a brief example of the level of detail that Porsche offer).
The sections in this category identify some of the option available in Porsches since they were codified in 1973 (and known then as M series options; in 2004 the list was renamed I series options); these need to be read alongside the colour, trim and other codes listed elsewhere on this site.
And don't think it stops there! Porsche Exclusive will deliver pretty much any modification to the look or performance of a Porsche; rumour has it that the idea sprang from a request by a customer to have three 356s delivered in the colour to match his daughter's bridesmaid's dresses at her forthcoming wedding...
Painting a Porsche to match a customer supplied colour swatch is just one Exclusive option - others are listed in the Exclusive category (click the link to your left).
Porsche Option Codes identify variations, special orders, factory-fitted extras; see the seperate category for Exclusive Options
